Medium Voltage Power Factor Correction
Companies with high electric loads often have a reduced power factor. A low power factor can cause undesirable effects such as increased electricity costs charged by their supplier.
To find out whether the installation of Power Factor Correction equipment can save you money, P.Q.E. can survey and analyse information taken from your company about your electrical usage and supply, to give you estimates of how much money you can save.
We provide one-to-one consultation to find out your specific requirement to deliver the best results. Our products can be delivered and installed at your convenience and our full technical support is always available whenever it is needed.
1. Medium Voltage Power Factor Capacitors
Our Medium Voltage Power Factor Capacitors have operating voltages from 3.3KV to 20KV.The capacitor units can be supplied in either single or 3 phase configuration with reactive power ratings ranging from 50KVAr to 800KVAr. Higher KVAR ratings are achieved by connecting two or more capacitors together.
2. MV Capacitor Banks
A capacitor bank comprises fuses, inrush reactors and one or more capacitors. If automatic equipment is supplied, vacuum contactor(s) are used to switch the capacitor(s) into and out of circuit.
Capacitor banks are usually metal enclosed but physically large equipment can be installed outdoors in segregated areas or in dedicated rooms in customer premises.
Where equipment is supplied for adverse environments, stainless steel enclosures can be provided and where ambient temperatures are high we will utilise forced air cooling to maximise equipment service life. Our engineers draw on many years’ experience to ensure that customers are provided with products which are very reliable but remain cost effective.
Automatic Capacitor Banks are used for power factor correction at medium voltages and where high levels of reactive power are required. The equipment rating depends upon the site load and can be calculated from one or two of the potential customer’s electricity bills.
- Manual or Automatic operation
- Single or Multi-stage
- With reactive power ratings from 50KVAr to 20MVAr
- Standard or Detuned where there are significant levels of harmonic distortion.
Capacitor Units for Individual Motor Correction comprise fuses, inrush limiting inductors and capacitors . Often installed adjacent to the motor and connected to its terminal box.
Optional Extras
- Oversize enclosures to facilitate future expansion.
- Galvanised covers instead of paint finish
- Over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection Ammeters and voltmeters
- Inbuilt voltage transformer (automatic banks) to provide control circuit power
