Low Voltage Power Factor Capacitors
Application
1. Individual Motor Correction
2. Replacement of old Capacitors that have failed.
3. Increasing range of existing capacitor banks

Low voltage Power Factor Capacitors ratings from 380 to 690 volts are available. The Capacitors can be supplied in either single or three phase configuration with reactive power ratings ranging from 1 to 50KVAr
.
Higher KVAr ratings are achieved by connecting two or more capacitors together.
Delivery is usually ex-stock for 415/440/450V range
Motors can be Power Factor corrected by mounting a capacitor in the motor starter or installing the capacitor in an enclosure and mounting it adjacent to the motor and linking into its terminal box. The capacitor size required to correct a motor depends upon its rating. (Information is required if motors are star delta or soft start)
Fitting new capacitors into existing equipment is much more cost effective than replacing the complete unit.

Power Factor Correction Equipment
Panel builders and switchboard manufacturers usually prefer to install power factor correction equipment within their own products, in order to avoid having to purchase a stand alone panel which may not physically match their own.

Detuned Capacitors
Capacitors are susceptible to damage when connected into supplies which have significant levels of harmonic distortion.
The harmonics increase current flow through the capacitors and raise the voltage across the capacitors causing overload and failure.
Detuned capacitors are fitted with series connected inductors which present high impedances to harmonic frequencies. These limit the capacitor currents and ensure that equipment reliability is maintained.
Fitting inductors increases the equipment size and losses. It's necessary, therefore, to fit one or more cooling fans to prevent excessive temperature rise. We also fit over temperature protection to prevent damage in the event of fan failure or air filter blockage.
